How to collaborate with comments
Comments in PixelFiddler let you and your team leave feedback directly on product images. Instead of exchanging scattered emails or chat messages about which photo needs what change, you can pin your thoughts to the exact spot on the image that needs attention. Everyone stays on the same page, and nothing gets lost.
What comments do
Section titled “What comments do”Comments are threaded conversations attached to your product images. They help your team:
- Point out specific areas that need retouching or adjustment
- Discuss whether an image is ready to publish on your marketplace
- Keep a clear record of who requested what and when it was resolved
- Coordinate between photographers, editors, and store managers without leaving PixelFiddler
Accessing comments
Section titled “Accessing comments”To view or leave comments on an image:
- Open any gallery or storage in your space
- Select the file you want to discuss
- In the preview panel on the right, switch to the Comments tab

The Comments tab shows all existing comment threads for that image. If nobody has commented yet, you will see an empty state inviting you to start the first conversation.
Creating a comment thread
Section titled “Creating a comment thread”To start a new conversation about an image:
- Open the image and switch to the Comments tab
- Click New Comment or click directly on the image where you want to leave your feedback
- Type your message in the text field
- Click Submit to post your comment
Your comment now appears as a new thread in the Comments tab and, if you clicked on the image, as a pin at that location.
Position-based comments
Section titled “Position-based comments”One of the most useful features of comments is the ability to pin them to a specific spot on the image. This is especially helpful when you need to point out a detail that would be hard to describe in words alone.
To create a position-based comment:
- Hover over the image in the preview panel
- Click on the exact spot you want to discuss — for example, a wrinkle in the fabric, a color inconsistency, or a distracting background element
- A comment box appears anchored to that position
- Type your feedback and click Submit

The pin stays attached to that spot, so when your retoucher opens the image, they can see precisely where the issue is.
Navigating between comment pins
Section titled “Navigating between comment pins”When an image has multiple pinned comments, numbered markers appear on the image. You can:
- Click any pin on the image to jump to that comment thread in the sidebar
- Click a comment thread in the Comments tab to highlight and scroll to its pin on the image
This makes it easy to move through feedback one point at a time, especially during a detailed review session.
Replying to existing threads
Section titled “Replying to existing threads”Conversations often require back-and-forth between team members. To reply to an existing thread:
- Open the Comments tab for the image
- Find the thread you want to respond to
- Type your reply in the text field below the original comment
- Click Submit
Replies are nested under the original comment, keeping the full conversation in context. This is much cleaner than trying to track feedback across separate messages or emails.
Mentioning team members
Section titled “Mentioning team members”When you need a specific person to see your comment, mention them by name so they receive a notification.
To mention a team member:
- Type @ in the comment text field
- A dropdown appears with the names of people in your space
- Select the person you want to notify
- Finish your message and submit

Mentions are a great way to assign action items. For example, you might write: “@Sarah can you remove the shadow under this product? It looks unnatural on a white background.”
Resolving and unresolving threads
Section titled “Resolving and unresolving threads”Once feedback has been addressed, you can resolve the thread to mark it as done. This keeps your comment list clean without deleting anything.
To resolve a thread:
- Open the thread in the Comments tab
- Click the Resolve button on the thread
- The thread is collapsed and marked as resolved
To unresolve a thread:
If you realize the issue was not fully fixed, or new concerns come up, you can reopen it. Click Unresolve on any resolved thread to bring it back to the active list.
Editing your comments
Section titled “Editing your comments”Made a typo or want to clarify your feedback? You can edit any comment you have written.
- Find your comment in the thread
- Click the edit option on your comment
- Update the text as needed
- Save your changes
Practical use cases
Section titled “Practical use cases”Design review with your photographer
Section titled “Design review with your photographer”After a product photoshoot, upload the images to PixelFiddler and invite your photographer to the space. Pin comments on images where the lighting, angle, or composition needs adjustment. Your photographer can reply with questions, and you can resolve threads as reshoots or edits are completed.
Feedback on retouching quality
Section titled “Feedback on retouching quality”Your retoucher delivers edited product images. Before publishing, review each image by pinning comments on areas that still need work — background removal artifacts, color correction issues, or uneven shadows. The retoucher sees exactly where to look without any ambiguity.
Approval workflow before publishing
Section titled “Approval workflow before publishing”Set up a simple approval process for your team:
- The photographer or editor uploads final images
- The store manager reviews each image and leaves comments for any changes
- The editor addresses the feedback and replies to confirm
- The store manager resolves each thread once satisfied
- When all threads on an image are resolved, the image is approved for publishing
This approach gives you a clear audit trail of who approved what and when, which is valuable when managing large product catalogs.
Best practices
Section titled “Best practices”- Be specific. Use position-based comments to point at the exact area you mean. “Fix this” pinned to a spot is far more helpful than “the image looks off.”
- Mention the right person. Use @mentions so the person responsible gets notified immediately rather than discovering the feedback days later.
- Resolve as you go. Do not let resolved and unresolved threads pile up. Mark threads as resolved the moment the issue is confirmed fixed.
- Keep threads focused. Start a new comment thread for each distinct issue. Mixing multiple topics in one thread makes it harder to track what has been addressed.
